“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV

Earlier in the week, I saw a woman whom I recognized because she was the person who directed kids after school when they needed help crossing the street.

I didn’t know her name, so I almost wasn’t going to say anything, but I figured she might need a kind word.

“You’re the one who helps the kids cross the street, right?” I said.

“Yes,” she said.

“You’re doing an amazing job! You have so much patience. I really appreciate it. You even wore a dinosaur outfit one day. You made it fun for the kids,” I told her.

“Thank you for noticing,” she said. “There are big trucks crossing, and it can be an intense half hour. I work five jobs,” she said.

“Wow! I appreciate you keeping the kids safe,” I said.

We never really know how much the people around us need to hear an encouraging word. It only takes a few minutes to say something kind.

God knows that we need encouragement to brighten our outlooks.

Kindness welcomes people with a smile.

Amen.
