I Samuel 12:24 NKJV
[24] Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.
I’ve been reading through the old testament as part of a one-year Bible reading plan in the Bible app, and it’s surprising what I didn’t remember from my previous readings of the Bible when I had read it all the way through.
One example of details I had forgotten is that Saul was looking for a few of his father’s lost donkeys when he came across Samuel and soon after became the first anointed king of Israel.
One seemingly insignificant task (looking for lost donkeys), set Saul on a path to royalty.
We never know what God has planned for us.
When we fear the Lord, we try to follow His laws better, not because we are afraid that He will punish us with illness or other negative consequences, but because we can be in awe of the Creator of the universe, so much so that He sent His Only Son to save us.
What we encounter each day presents us with an opportunity for gratitude for everything God has done for us.
Amen.
