Colossians 3:12-13 NKJV
[12] Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; [13] bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
Forgiveness doesn’t come naturally to us in a culture that glorifies revenge in action movies.
Grudges may contribute to our feelings of longsuffering, but feelings pass, just as the seasons do.
What we feel about an event in the past might change over time as our love and understanding of Jesus’s sacrifice grows.
Jesus was hurt. Jesus was betrayed by someone in His inner circle. Yet Jesus forgave, interceding on the behalf of humanity to ask our Heavenly Father to “forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Knowledge will pass away, but God’s love for us never fails.
No matter how much we way want to hold on to past hurts, God can teach us how to let them go.
A rose has its thorns to protect its life.
Jesus protected us in the past, even during hurtful situations, and He is here to protect us now.
God never changes. People change and seasons change, but God never stops loving us.
We can extend that love to our fellow believers in Christ and to the world around us.
Amen.
